Suttons Bay Businesses Help Locals Celebrate Easter In Place

By Emily Tyra | April 5, 2020

An upcoming Easter weekend with shelter-in-place mandates inspired Leelanau businesses to implement special offerings so locals who celebrate can do so safely.

Baskets & Brunch, 45th Parallel Café and Candy World, Suttons Bay
Those wishing to prepare Easter baskets have the option of sanitized, social-distancing shopping at Candy World, which is attached to the 45th Parallel Café. “I personally hand-shop everything myself wearing gloves,” says Bridgett Lambdin, co-owner, who is providing the empty baskets before filling at no charge. “We also will have our safe, open-air outdoor shopping set up under a tent, weather dependent. There we will have ready-to-go baskets, homemade fudge bunnies and other goodies.” Customers also can do curbside pickup, delivery and shipping via 45thfudge.com.

The 45th Parallel Café will be open Easter Sunday, April 12, for carryout, curbside service and delivery from 8am to 2pm with the full menu plus traditional and vegetarian eggs benedict specials. (Veg version comes with eggs, avocado, portobello mushrooms, tomatoes, hollandaise and roasted pinenuts.) Lambdin says customers have been ordering curbside takeout and enjoying it with a water view safely from their vehicles.

Easter Brunch Takeout, Black Star Farms, Suttons Bay
In reaction to the state and federal mandate to stay at home, the team at Hearth & Vine Café at Black Star Farms Suttons Bay created “Easter Brunch From The Farm” with curbside pickup available Saturday, April 11, between noon and 4 pm. Says proprietor Sherri Campbell Fenton, "We started our brunches two years ago with wonderful support from our community. While we cannot currently invite the community inside, we hope they will support our team with our takeout initiative."

The menu includes maple-glazed ham, quiche, grilled asparagus, buttermilk mashed potatoes, rolls and whipped butter, salad with lemon vinaigrette and pound cake with berry sauce, and serves up to 6 people. Heating instructions will be included. View Black Star Farms’ current culinary safety procedures here. Order deadline is noon Tuesday April 7. Call 231-944-1258 and leave a message, or email dorothyd@blackstarfarms.com.

Holiday Specialties, 9 Bean Rows Bakery, Suttons Bay
The bakery will be open Saturday April 11 from 7am to 3pm with holiday specialties such as hot-cross buns, French macarons, carrot cake and more available for carryout. Owner/baker Jen Welty says, “we want it to be a happy time for everyone, so who knows what other fancy things we will bake.” The bakery will also have the regular bread and croissant offerings and fresh produce from the hoop house available, including potatoes, herbs, and lettuce mix for those preparing a holiday dinner at home.

Easter Dinner, Martha's Leelanau Table, Suttons Bay
Sunday April 12, chef Martha Ryan and team will offer a special dinner menu featuring honey baked ham, rack of lamb and halibut with parmesan aioli in addition to their regular takeout menu. Call ahead, as quantities will be limited. 231-271-2344
