From The Ashes, The Bite Food Trucks Call It A Season

From The Ashes food truck, which served farm-sourced wood-fired pizzas this summer from a home base at Fountain Point Resort on Lake Leelanau, has closed early for the season.

It is run by the co-owner of Lake Leelanau’s Island Thyme Catering Kristy VerSnyder and her teammate/chef Matt Fitzke-Loll.

The pair originally planned for September 5 as their last day, before transitioning to work the handful of weddings that are still taking place this season for the catering company.

However, in a Facebook post yesterday VerSnyder shared, “From The Ashes is officially done for 2020. The rainstorm [Tuesday] night and [yesterday] morning did some extensive damage to our setup and as the business owner, I had to say to myself 'know when to walk away.'”

VerSnyder continued, “I can’t thank all of our customers and community members who helped not only build a business but also helped me keep a few main staff members employed of Island Thyme Catering during this difficult year. Without your love and support I was looking at losing my company. I don’t know what 2021 holds for From The Ashes but I can promise you she will be operational in some capacity. Stay tuned as we figure out a way to have two businesses running.”

The Bite Food Truck in Northport — opened in late June by Daniel Nedow and George Twine, the co-owners of Northport’s Abundance Catering — also announced this week that it served its final famous Philly Cheesesteak after a “great, short season.”

“Thank you for letting us share our food with you and your families.”  a statement via Facebook said.
