GTB Shares Details For 33rd Annual Pow Wow Celebration

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB) has shared the details for it 33rd annual Pow Wow. The event, presented by the GTB's Economic Development Corporation, invites not only tribal members, but also “people of all nations,” to “celebrate the culture, language, and enduring spirit of the Anishinaabek, the first people whose presence and legacy have shaped this land and this community for generations.”

This year’s Pow Wow will occur as part of the 100th annual National Cherry Festival in Traverse City. On Tuesday, July 7, GTB take over the Cherry Festival’s Pepsi Bayside Music Stage area. The event tent opens at 10am, with attendees invited to “browse handcrafted arts, jewelry, and cultural displays while enjoying authentic Native American food from local vendors.”

The Pow Wow will officially begin with an 11am “grand entry.” The festivities will include traditional dancing, drumming, and singing, as well as the “crowning of the Wiigwaasmin royalty, a unique pageant created over a decade ago to uplift and support Native American youth living in the way of their ancestors.”

The event runs until 3pm.
