LIFT Announces Mental Health Awareness Day

Leelanau Investing for Teens (LIFT) will host “Lydia’s Day,” its version of a mental health awareness day, next Thursday, September 3. The day of free, family-friendly activities is a tribute to a local teen who lost her battle with mental health struggles several years ago.

“This year marks the fifth year of this beloved community event which commemorates Lydia’s life by raising awareness of youth mental health needs and raising support for afterschool and out-of-school programs hosted by LIFT,” a press release states.

The 2026 incarnation of Lydia’s Day is scheduled for September 3 from 4-6pm, at Sutton Park in Suttons Bay. Activities and attractions will include a potluck, face painting, and water activities like glass bottom kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and paddle bikes. Mental health resources and professionals will also be available at the event.

“We’re very excited to host the fifth Lydia’s Day, said Bekah TenBrink, LIFT’s executive director. “It is such an empowering and encouraging opportunity for our community to come together and learn more about mental health awareness and break down barriers of stigma.”
