M22 Challenge Returns To National Lakeshore In June; Registration Opens March 1

Planning on competing in this year’s M22 Challenge? If so, don’t forget to set a calendar reminder for registration, which starts on Tuesday, March 1 at 8am sharp. The event has a history of reaching its 900-person registration limit in a matter of minutes.

The M22 Challenge is a uniquely northern-Michigan-centric twist on a triathlon. The three-part race includes a 2.5-mile run in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (including sprints up and down the dune climb itself), a 17-mile bike ride around Little and Big Glen Lake, and a 2.5-mile paddle across Little Glen Lake. In total, the course measures a round 22 miles, a nod toward the event’s host, local retailer M22.

Registration for the M22 Challenge costs $190 and includes race entry for one athlete, a timing chip for the race, and an event shirt and event bag. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, with the first wave of competitors set to begin the race at 8am.

M22 will not require competitors to be vaccinated against COVID-19, but will require masks in many settings in accordance with COVID guidelines laid forth by the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
