New App For Self-Guided Sleeping Bear Dunes Tours

As people across the region seek out activities that allow for social distancing and fresh air, the National Lakeshore’s new smartphone app makes it easy to explore the park at an individual pace — with features to make the outing interactive and safe.

The National Lakeshore released its first mobile app as part of its 50th anniversary celebration happening this year. The free app is currently available for download on Apple devices, and as an Android app in the Google Play Store.

Discover the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore’s hidden treasures right from your phone, plus must-know info such as what trails and beaches dogs are allowed, restroom locations, and what to do if you see a bear.

The app's self-guided tours open up a world of little-known natural features and local history. Some, such as Glen Haven Village, include a narrated audio tour. Park rangers recommend downloading content to use without cell service before heading into the park, using Wi-Fi at the visitors center and campgrounds.

Visitors need a 7-day or annual pass to explore the National Lakeshore, available to purchase at any of these locations. Annual passes are also now available online.
