PSA: Glen Arbor’s Independence Day Parade Is On The Fourth Of July
Last week, when Glen Arbor Township announced its celebrations for the forthcoming holiday weekend, the announcement erroneously stated that the annual Glen Arbor Fourth of July parade would take place this year on Thursday, July 2 rather than Independence Day itself. The Ticker then reported this incorrect date as part of our Monday roundup of July 4 festivities in an around Leelanau County. Be advised that the Glen Arbor Independence Day parade is in fact scheduled for Saturday, July 4. Parade vehicles will gather in Glen Haven at 10am, with the parade starting at noon and proceeding toward Glen Arbor.
In addition, Glen Arbor Township announced on Monday morning that another local tradition, the annual Fourth of July boat parade, is "a go" for this Saturday.
"No need to register or RSVP - just show up," the township shared in its announcement of the boat parade. "Meet on the water at 3pm in front of Glen Lake Yacht Club. Whoever gets there first or is so inclined can be the leader! We head towards the Narrows, go under the bridge and out towards the boat ramp, then head back under the bridge. After that, it's anyone's guess. Those who want to keep the parade going can circle the lake. Boat decorations are optional but highly encouraged, so get that red, white, and blue swag out!"
Our Monday roundup also included a brief rundown of Fourth of July festivities taking place in Benzie County this week, including a fireworks show planned in Beulah. That fireworks event has since been cancelled.
“Due to the retirement of our longtime fireworks vendor, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Beulah Fourth of July fireworks display,” Hayden Bretzke, president of the Crystal Lake Community Business Association, announced this week. “We know this tradition means a great deal to our community, and we're just as disappointed as everyone else. The good news is that we are already working to bring the fireworks back bigger and better for next year's celebration.”
Bretzke added that all donations already received for this year’s fireworks “will be rolled over and applied directly toward next year's display.”
