Sugarfoot Saloon Is Back For One More Summer
For those who thought they’d tasted their last original wet burrito back in December when Sugarfoot Saloon of Cedar closed its doors and went on the market, here is another shot.
Karen and Peter Bardenhagen, co-owners of Foots — as locals call it — tell the Leelanau Ticker that the iconic Mexican American dining establishment they’ve run for 31 years will reopen from 4-8pm daily starting mid-June, for takeout only.
Karen, whose job at the cafeteria at Leland Public School is winding down for the summer, says, "We never thought we’d reopen! But we are going to do a simpler version of our menu, with phone-in orders, cash or check only. We have a few Leland High School students helping us roll burritos."
In addition to Mexican classics, the Bardenhagens will offer the broasted chicken they are known for, but "four pieces to an order, without the sides," says Karen. "People can get a few orders of chicken to take home or take out on the boat." Find the streamlined menu on their website. The new phone number for Sugarfoot Saloon is 231-835-2700.
Note that the restaurant at 4997 South Good Harbor Trail is still for sale, including the liquor license, brewing license, and 10 adjacent (zoned agricultural) acres for a total of 11 acres. The Bardenhagens will also provide Sugarfoot Saloon's proprietary recipes."
