The Latest Leelanau County Blotter & 911 Call Report

The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the May 11 to May 17 call reports.

 

8:48pm 5/11/2026 UDAA Leelnaanu Twp., Caller claims his Chevy Blazer is being used by unauthorized individuals. They do not have permission to drive the vehicle. 

9:07am 5/12/2026 Fire Smoke Cedar, Caller can see smoke from some type of fire. Out investigating. There is someone with a controlled burn, was unaware of the burn ban. He will not add any more fuel to it and is standing by with a water source until it dies.

3:33pm 5/12/2026 Building Check Leelanau Twp., Front door of cabin is open, thinks it may have been broken into. Will stand by.

9:13am 5/13/2026 WC Found Empire, Dark green pontoon with a cover washed onto caller’s shore. 

8:58am 5/14/2026 Larceny Leland Twp., Caller purchased a boat in Northport, previous owner went to the storage and took a bunch of items that the caller advised were supposed to be included with the sale.

3:38pm 5/14/2026 Disorderly Leelanau Twp., Male appears to be intoxicated on the side of the road with his large dog. 

9:32am 5/15/2026 Animal Control Maple City, Caller heard that there are feral cats and neglected horses at this address. 

3:02pm 5/15/2026 Larceny Elmwood Twp., Cash and wedding ring missing.

7:24pm 5/15/2026 Info E Cherry Bend Rd., Caller is reporting a pickup truck, tan in color, that repeatedly “peels out” near this intersection then goes west speeding. 

10:07pm 5/16/2026 Fire Smoke DH Day Group Campground, "Large" amounts of black smoke coming west of this location. Caller states it comes and goes and smells like plastic. 

3:29am 5/17/2026 Disorderly Glen Arbor, 3 people are having a “wrestling match”, likely intoxicated, no weapons known. Caller believes they are causing destruction to property.
