The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the August 17 to August 20 call reports.

11:02am 8/17/2026 Traffic Violation N West-Bay Shore Dr., Northbound drag racers. Red CRV and blue Subaru trying to get away. 

11:53pm 8/18/2026 Info Cedar, Caller thinks it is strange that a house nearby has had a car there for a couple of hours. She doesn’t know if anyone is supposed to be there, just thinks it should be noted. 

11:58am 8/19/2026 Animal Control E Traverse Hwy., Horse broke through the fence. Eating grass.

3:51pm 8/19/2026 Welfare Check Leelanau Cty., Person has been asleep all day in his car, people have gone by and asked if he is okay and caller checked on him several times. Just sleeping. 

5:22pm 8/19/2026 Larceny Empire Twp., Someone is coming into his fenced backyard and taking entire pile of wood. 

12:01pm 8/20/2026 Break Enter Empire Twp., Someone tried to get into caller’s living quarters.

1:02pm 8/20/2026 Suspicious Incident Leelanau Cty., Young man drove a silver Toyota Tundra into driveway, appeared to press doorbell then jiggled the knob. He stated he was doing a job in the area and wanted to do work in their driveway. They declined and he left, caller wants to speak to a deputy about it.
