The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the November 21 to November 27 call reports.

2:45:57am 11/21/2022 Car Deer Suttons Bay, Called out over air, struck deer in patrol car.

11:47:53am 11/21/2022 Fire Wires Down S Center Hwy., Power line over the road. No arcing or sparking. It's a spectrum cable, not blocking the roadway, on ground in several areas. Marking with cones for now, might get more calls. Contacted Charter/Spectrum. 

2:50:43pm 11/21/2022 Animal Control Northport, Ongoing problem with neighbors, dogs running around on the callers yard and porch and on M22. Will call reporter and dog owners. 

3:17:33pm 11/21/2022 Animal Control Leland Twp., Caller says there are often chickens in the roadway. They were a traffic hazard when pulling out onto the road. 

6:13:53pm 11/21/2022 Warrant Arrest Missaukee Cty., Arrested by MSP in Missaukee county; being transported to Kalkaska where they will be met for transfer to Leelanau jail. 

11:38:47pm 11/21/2022 Building Check Leelanau Cty., Ceiling lights on in kitchen and living room, hasn’t been in the house since October. Will be entering residence for structure check. 

12:42:50am 11/22/2022 Suspicious Vehicle Suttons Bay, Out with a vehicle parked in the middle of the road. Made contact with the RO, he advised he was not the one driving the vehicle. No key and the doors are locked, request hook. Bingham on scene.

7:27:45am 11/23/2022 Car Deer N West-Bay Shore Dr., Deer ran into side of Jeep, doesn’t see it anywhere, has damage but is drivable.

8:48:20am 11/23/2022 Citizen Assist Empire Twp., Glen Lake called over air, going to help with a bloody nose. 

9:01:55am 11/23/2022 CO2/Hazmat/CBRN Bingham Twp., Called fire station and alarm went off last night but is not going off now. 

11:05:52am 11/23/2022 Medical Alarm Centerville Twp., Medical alarm, unknown and unable to make contact. No tracks at the house, no one has been there since snowfall. 

12:34:31pm 11/23/2022 Citizen Assist S West-Bay Shore Dr., Evaluated female patient at Toms.

3:11:53pm 11/23/2022 Drive Off S West-Bay Shore Dr., Drive off from Holiday. Made contact, they will be returning. 

6:06:36pm 11/23/2022 Headache Suttons Bay Twp., Headache

6:07:23pm 11/23/2022 Suspicious Vehicle Leelanau Cty., Disabled motorhome partly in the roadway, been there a few hours, lights are dimming, appears to be abandoned. Spoke with the RO, they will be moving it soon; they are leaving for Florida. 

6:57:59pm 11/23/2022 Gunshots Empire Twp., Caller reported hearing multiple gunshots in the area and would like it checked out. Update: sat in the area for a while, did not hear any gunshots. 

8:49:44pm 11/23/2022 Citizen Assist Leland Twp., Caller is requesting a call from 45-01 regarding a deer trapped in a fence that, according to the caller, the DNR would not handle for the past 2 days. 45-07 will contact the caller to determine if there's anything he can do. Update: not finding a deer in the fence, there are a lot of tracks inside the fence so it may be running around inside the fenced area. The deer is not entangled in the fence itself, called the reporter and he is upset that the deer is within the confines of the fence and that the fence is only 6 feet tall and should be 8 feet for agricultural purposes, Offered to call the farm owner.  

8:54:43pm 11/23/2022 Citizen Assist Empire Twp., Caller is reporting subject has house key and won’t give it back. 

6:16:12pm 11/24/2022 Welfare Check Elmwood Twp., Caller has not been able to reach him since yesterday and he always calls her on Thanksgiving. Reporter last spoke to him on opening day. Spoke with the subject and he will call his mom. 

10:00:14pm 11/24/2022 Suspicious Incident Northport, Someone was just trying to get in the front door, front door jiggled twice within 30 seconds. No vehicles and didn’t see any footprints around the house.

9:18:52am 11/25/2022 Harassment N West-Bay SHore Dr., Caller says his former girlfriend is in the parking lot and he doesn't want to confront her or be harassed by her. 

11:08:43am 11/25/2022 Alarm Cleveland Twp., Hall motion, told EPS he can see someone on his Ring camera that he doesnt recognize. EPS called back, said he finally recognized the person there and made contact with them. No longer need response. 

12:21:11pm 11/25/2022 Animal Control Empire Twp., Dog has been loose in the neighborhood, currently chasing neighbors horses. Short black haired dog, skittish, no visible tags. In the area, no status needed. 

6:38:23pm 11/25/2022 Suspicious Person S West-Bay Shore Dr., Loitering in area, been there for 2 hours wandering the area. Male in protective custody. 

8:28:44pm 11/25/2022 Animal Control Lost Elmwood Twp., 15 lb white yorkie-type dog “Finn” ran away 3 hours ago. Caller is watching the dog and his owner is here too. Ran away 3 hours agp. Dog does have a collar, no tags. Called back, “Finn” has returned. 

10:04:24am 11/26/2022 Animal Control North Beach, Caller was walking with leashed dog on the beach, saw another dog in the area that was unleashed so started walking the other way. The other dog continued and attacked. 

1:27:13pm 11/26/2022 Animal Control Bingham Twp., Suspected neglect/abuse for 12 dogs. Customer brags about having a puppy mill. Spends all day in crates. 

4:28:10pm 11/26/2022 Building Check Leelanau Cty., Caller saw a camper at the neighbors with an open door. They are away for the winter, tried calling and no answer. No signs of nefarious activity. Door was secured. 

6:07:57pm 11/26/2022 Suspicious Incident Glen Arbor Twp., Closed shop and went to the market. When she returned she heard a commotion and is nervous to re-enter. Making entry into the shop, building is secure. 

9:09:58pm 11/26/2022 Suspicious Incident E Harbor Hwy., Heard about 10 gunshots then saw a flash of lights then 2 vehicles quickly pulled out of driveway headed west. After speaking with the caller, they are not sure if what they heard was gunshots, the area was checked and nothing was found. Not sure exactly what happened. 

11:46:01pm 11/27/2022 Fire/Gas Leak Kasson Twp., Caller smells a funny odor in the house, can’t find the source. Might be the furnace, possibly propane. 2 story, nothing showing, no gas presented throughout the house.
