GT Lighthouse To Open For The Season

The Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum will open for the season on Friday, June 26 at 11am. Face coverings are required and the tower climb is not available this year.

Museum executive director Stef Staley shared yesterday with the lighthouse's fans on Facebook, “We have finally been approved to open! The fog signal building’s shipwreck exhibit opened Wednesday — meet our ROV intern Max and learn about the area shipwrecks and underwater drones.”

The gift shop is also open, and visitors should be aware that high water is in effect along the beach/shoreline.

The Grand Traverse Lighthouse has been guiding ships and sailors since 1858 and is on the State and National Historic Register. It is located inside the Leelanau State Park (15500 North Lighthouse Point Road Northport), so park entrance fees apply — or present an annual recreation passport.

“Come out and visit us,” says Staley. “We are ready for you.” For questions call 231-386-7195.
