Leelanau Legends: Maro, Prince Of Magic

For those seeking a short break from all of the blue/red talk today, note that the curator and archivist at Leelanau Historical Society Museum are teaming up to create virtual exhibits for followers to get a glimpse — anytime, anywhere — of the quirky true tales and fascinating figures of Leelanau County.

First up: Maro, Prince of Magic. Discover the man behind the magic and his connection to Leland in the early 1900’s, including to a home on the north shore of Lake Leelanau named, appropriately, Maronook. He and his wife built the cottage to stay in between tours, and it's still here today as a private residence. He is also part of the bittersweet origin story of Leland’s Old Art Building. 

Among his wild feats: floating a fifteen-foot flag over the heads of a charmed audience, and performing an art séance act, where he would rapidly execute crayon sketches of impressionistic scenes. Need more Maro? Find him, and the latest virtual exhibits, here.
