Dave’s Garage in Empire Offers Health Workers Free Car Disinfectant

By Emily Tyra | April 20, 2020

Starting last Friday, Northern Michigan healthcare workers can get the interior of their vehicles disinfected at no cost at the Empire and Traverse City locations of Dave’s Garage.

Dave’s Garage co-owners Craig Olvey and Jamie Laferriere are offering a spray-on disinfectant called Transform that can be applied to car surfaces in minutes.

“Healthcare workers are vigilant to make sure they don’t bring infections home to their families,” says Laferriere. “Our hope is that we can provide another layer of safety for them.”

Healthcare workers — including nurses, doctors, emergency medical technicians, police and firefighters — will need to call either location of Dave’s Garage to set an appointment, and some identification may be required. The free disinfectant will be available while their supplies last. Transform disinfectant is approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and is also used to disinfect some fruits and vegetables.

“These people are battling this virus every day,” says Olvey. “This is just one small way we can show our appreciation for the valiant work they do to save lives during this pandemic.”

Dave’s Garage in Empire (formerly Taghon’s Garage) is at 12777 Benzonia Trail. Make appointments by calling 231-326-5138. The Traverse City location is at 911 Hastings Street, with appointments made at 231-933-0215.
