Fountain Point Resort Brings Chris Barron Of The Spin Doctors, The Accidentals & Other Musical Powerhouses To Perform On Lake Leelanau

By Ross Boissoneau | July 15, 2022

Fountain Point Resort on Lake Leelanau is bringing back live music this summer with two shows. On July 20, “Lyrics ’Round the Lake” will see singer/songwriters Shawn Mullins, Steve Poltz, and Chris Barron joining forces. On Aug. 11, the Accidentals https://www.theaccidentalsmusic.com/ and the Kaboom Collective Orchestra will reimagine music originally written by the Traverse City-born, Nashville-based trio.

Mullins’ music treads somewhere among folk rock, instrumental rock, adult alternative, and Americana. He is best known for the 1998 single “Lullaby,” which hit #1 on the Adult Top 40 and was nominated for a Grammy Award. Poltz regularly spends 300-plus days (and nights) on the road, and has been dubbed “part busker, part Iggy Pop and part Robin Williams, a freewheeling folkie with a quick wit and big heart.” He’s collaborated with Jewel and Billy Strings, among others. As the lead singer of the Spin Doctors, Chris Barron’s music ranges from bluesy alt-rock to zesty pop.  He boasts a Grammy nomination, a Rolling Stone cover, and two Top Ten hits.

The three will perform in a traditional writers’ round, taking turns sharing original songs and the stories behind them. Their appearance is part of a mini-tour which will also see them at Bay View and the Little Traverse Conservancy.

The folk/alt/classical band – just call them genre-busting – the Accidentals are have a loyal fandom in the region. They met in the music program at Traverse City Area Public Schools, enrolled at Interlochen, and have since recorded numerous songs, EPs and albums on their own and with others. The driving forces of this female-fronted trio are daughters of professional pianist fathers and vocalist mothers, and have toured across the country. This winter The Accidentals released the music video  their new single “Eastern Standard Time”— a sterling, silvery indie folk song that gives a sincere nod to their beloved home state with footage shot on the Leelanau Peninsula

For this show they will be joined by members of the Kaboom Collective Orchestra, a student organization that will perform new arrangements of the band’s pieces. Kaboom Collective’s studio orchestra is comprised of 40 students, 15-25 years old. Kaboom is the only arts education platform in the country that is production-based, with students working alongside industry professionals, accomplished musicians, and technical experts, learning the ins and outs of the music, arts, and entertainment industries. The Kaboom composition team arranged all of the music the orchestra performs and records. The Kaboom Collective Orchestra is partnering with The Accidentals on an eight-stop tour across the Great Lakes.
