Here’s What Leelanau County Got In The Most Recent Round Of Grand Traverse Band Grants

On July 3, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB) announced its second round of gaming revenue distributions for 2024. Per the Tribes v. Engler consent decree, the GTB is required to allocate 2 percent of its video gaming revenues to local units of government twice each year. The latest distribution amounts to $643,166.36, which was spread out among 31 local applications. Here’s a rundown of the money coming to Leelanau County.
· $ 44,712.50 for a “prisoner housing contract” government-to-government agreement between the tribe and Leelanau County.
· $4,300 to Elmwood Township Fire & Rescue, to pay for “a headset/emergency intercom system for the front-line fire engine.
· Three allocations for applications from the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners, including:
o $50,000 in funding “to support Housing North’s project to expand the rental preservation program.”
o $15,000 to help the Inland Seas Education Association “retrofit the tallship Alliance for educational purposes.”
o $3,680 “to support the Leelanau County Historical Preservation Society in funding two new outdoor educational exhibits at the Historic Poor Farm Barn and to make the barn floor safe.”
· $13,500 to Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy “to support the Cultural Garden and Restoration Project at the school for the land-based curriculum.”
· $66,739.89 to the Leelanau Township Fire Department, “to replace and purchase a new Likepak Cardiac Monitor.”
· $20,000 to the Suttons Bay-Bingham Fire & Rescue Authority, “to purchase a high-pressure lift bag, awater rescue boat, and CPR manikins.”
