Local Wineries Win Big At Michigan Governors Cup

Several local wineries were honored at the 2023 Michigan Governor’s Cup. The Michigan Wine Collaborative announced the results from the recent statewide wine competition, a partnership with the Beverage Testing Institute (BTI). BTI conducted a series of professional blind tastings to rate and rank a set of Michigan produced wines, meads, and ciders at the BTI Chicago testing facility over a three-month period of time.

Mawby was named “Best in Category” for sparkling wine by its NV Grace Brut Rosé. Governor’s Case Winners for being among the top five whites, top five reds, and top two sparking, were Chateau Fontaine 2021 Woodland White Auxerrois, Chateau Fontaine 2021 Wall of Goats Sauvignon Blanc, Left Foot Charley 2021 Reserve Blaufrankisch, Mawby 2017 Mille Brut Methode Champenoise and NV Grace Brut Rosé. They were all gold medal winners.

In addition, numerous other wineries from the area were among those receiving gold medals, including Brengman Brothers; Chateau Chantal; Shady Lane Cellars; Bel Lago; Soul Squeeze Cellars; 45 North Vineyard & Winery; Black Star Farms; Peninsula Cellars; Mari Vineyards; Two K Farms; Tabone Vineyards; Blustone Vineyards; Verterra Winery.

Several wineries also earned silver and bronze medals. They include the above plus Ciccone Vineyard And Winery, Laurentide, French Valley Vineyard, Brys Estate Vineyard & Winery, Amoritas Vineyards, and Boathouse Vineyards. In total, Michigan wines earned two Platinum Medals, 83 Gold Medals, 152 Silver Medals, and 45 Bronze Medals.
