By Emily Tyra | Sept. 1, 2021
Parenting Communities of Leelanau County, the program launched via the 2019 Early Childhood millage, and administered through the Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department (BLDHD), shares that its staff is hosting a first ever community-wide event for families with young children, this evening (September 1) at Herman Park pavilion in Suttons Bay.
A simple pizza dinner will be offered at this family-friendly event from 5:30-6pm, followed by singer-songwriter Miriam Pico performing a bilingual interactive music program for kids and families from 6-7pm.
“This event will bring parents, caregivers, and children together with other families to celebrate summer and our great community,” says Betsy Hardy, Leelanau Early Childhood Development Coordinator with the BLDHD.
She adds, “Leelanau County has a long and beautiful history of family support and has now funded opportunities to expand that support to all families with young children through the amazing generosity of taxpayers [Leelanau County Early Childhood mileage].”
Through COVID-19, telehealth home visits, virtual groups, social media support, and connection with resources were available to families. “This summer we were able to expand to in-person home visits and five opportunities for playgroups each week,” she says.
There will be opportunities for families in Leelanau County with young children to talk with staff and meet other Parenting Communities families.
