Peninsula Housing, Omena Cut Flowers Team Up For Weekend Fundraiser
By Craig Manning | Aug. 6, 2025
Peninsula Housing has announced a collaboration with Omena Cut Flowers and the nonprofit blooms4good to raise money in support of its affordable housing projects in Leelanau County. This Saturday, August 9, from noon to 5pm, every dollar spent on flowers at Omena Cut Flowers will be donated to Peninsula Housing and the projects it currently has in the pipeline.
Based in Virginia, blooms4good is an organization that partners with nonprofits and charities “to provide resources and advocacy” in support of their missions. Omena Cut Flowers, meanwhile, is a popular U-pick flower farm located north of Suttons Bay. Prepared bouquets from blooms4good and U-pick flowers from Omena Cut Flowers will both be a part of Saturday’s fundraiser, with any sales of either that occur between noon and 5pm going toward Peninsula Housing. Larry Mawby, Peninsula Housing founder, will be on hand from 2-3pm at Omena Cut Flowers to discuss his organization’s mission and pending projects.
In addition to the Omena Cut Flowers fundraiser, there will be wrapped bouquets available for purchase at the Bahle’s of Suttons Bay sidewalk sale – also on Saturday – and those proceeds will be put toward Peninsula Housing, as well.
Speaking to the Leelanau Ticker in June, Mawby outlined the next steps for Peninsula Housing, which include a 40-unit development off Herman Road in Suttons Bay and another sizable development project planned for the land that currently serves as the Suttons Bay Public Schools athletic fields.
