Refuge Industries Now Open In Suttons Bay
By Emily Tyra | May 25, 2020
A home décor shop and salon venture for Mitchell and Charynn Meoak of Maple City was delayed due to the stay-at-home executive order declared the same week as their planned opening in March, but Refuge Industries has officially opened as of Friday.
The building — formerly The Business Helper at 117 Broadway, Suttons Bay — houses retail space for Mitchell’s wood salvage pieces, handmade knives, curated antiques, plus Aveda products, and local apothecary goods. The four-chair Aveda salon — Refuge Salon — is not yet open, but the Meoaks are now seeking qualified stylists to employ.
Says Charynn Meoak, “we couldn’t be more excited to share everything we’ve been working on since November with everyone.” She adds that the first weekend of business was steady, with “a lot of interest in setting up appointments for Mitch to do custom home décor projects and to get on the wait list for hair appointments.” She believes the construction/streetscape project underway on M-22 through downtown Suttons Bay has helped their exposure as “it routes everyone going north right by our store.”
Current hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10am to 6pm and Friday and Saturday 11am to 5pm. 231-866-4228.
