The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the July 7 to July 14 call reports.

11:55am 7/7/2025 Car Animal S Center Hwy., Driving south, bear came out of east, bear is no longer there. Vehicle has a flat tire, hit wheels of vehicle. 

10:48am 7/8/2025 Building Check Elmwood Twp., Caller is hospitalized, she sent someone to her house and they reported that it appears someone may have been inside. She would like the building checked. Everything secure. 

5:35pm 7/8/2025 Suspicious Person Northport, Subject approached people on beach, smoking a joint, caller asked him to move, he started asking him their names then went to car.

3:59am 7/9/2025 Break Enter Northport, Male wearing a mask broke the glass on the front door and is currently inside. Caller is across the road. Received a second call from a gentleman who is in an apartment who heard the glass break and can see the male in the store with a flashlight. Male in custody, clearing the building. 

11:34am 7/9/2025 Suspicious Incident Leelnanu Twp., Caller had a contractor working for her and strange things were happening, feels unsafe.

2:30am 7/10/2025 Suspicious Person Leelananu Twp., Female came into caller’s house and said she walked from Leland. Subject does not know where she is staying. Female is outside but able to speak to the caller. 

6:37pm 7/10/2025 Larceny Centerville Twp., Someone stole caller’s boat from the dock five minutes ago. One detained. 

10:52am 7/11/2025 Suspicious Person Leelnanu Twp., Was in the library and noticed a man standing in the corner. He was staring at her then approached her and got very close making her nervous.

6:47pm 7/12/2025 Citizen Assist Leelanau Cty., Cat is stuck in a very tall skinny tree.

12:36am 7/13/2025 Trespassing Maple City, A male came onto caller’s property and walked around. Caller does not know if he is still in the area but she would like her property checked and to talk to officers.

10:52am 7/13/2025 Suspicious Incident Fouch Trailhead, Possible skull fragments found. Spoke with and sent many pictures with measurements to forensic anthropologist. He believes this is most likely a melon rind of some kind. It is not a human skull. 

1:26pm 7/14/2025 Fraud Leelanau Cty., Was contacted by bank and told that she was hacked. Told to go to the bank and not talk to anyone and get a deposit slip and remove money, told to deposit money into a bitcoin machine. 

4:07pm 7/14/2025 Civil S West-Bay Shore Dr., Caller is being harassed by someone on Facebook who is accusing her of stealing dogs.
