The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the March 14 to March 20 call reports.
2:07:31am 3/14/2023 Leave Scene Motor Vehicle Crash Suttons Bay Twp., Vehicle went off the road and hit the speed limit sign in the ditch and there are some car parts left behind on the side of the road. Will be out taking pictures, possibly a Ford pickup truck.
9:52:38am 3/14/2023 Civil Leelanau Twp., Sold him an amplifier, it doesn’t work. Caller returned to the address to get his money back and seller is refusing refund. Unable to resolve issue between the parties. Advised them to seek legal resolution through the courts.
10:44:12am 3/14/2023 Trespassing Leelanau Cty., Neighbor stated trespassing yesterday on callers property. Old cottage not utilized. Noticed teenagers or young adults at cottage. Has broken windows.
3:26:45am 3/15/2023 Suspicious Vehicle Leland, 45-24 called out with a vehicle at the merc, made contact, he’s laying floor in the merc, no report.
12:11:00pm 3/15/2023 Citizen Assist Elmwood Twp., Caller is power of attorney for his father, he wants to speak to an officer about lawyers that are scamming him. Would like a phone call from the deputy. Spoke with caller and gave him options.
5:40:03pm 3/15/2023 Standby Maple City, Attempting to retrieve horses from boarding, barn locked and unable to get access. Caller will meet deputy at Cleveland town hall. Dispatch received multiple calls from horse boarder. Horse border is concerned because caller has not provided compensation at all for horse boarding. Caller was reportedly unable to pay and agreed to exchange labor for boarding and did not do any labor. Spoke with both parties, everything is fine.
7:35:57pm 3/15/2023 Animal Control Maple City, Large dog, possibly a Mastiff, comes to callers house every night and would like to speak to animal control about it.
9:33:28am 3/16/2023 Welfare Check Leelanau Cty., 93 year old female without heat, 61 degrees in residence, had to respond at 10pm evening prior and informed nothing was wrong with her furnace. Caller unable to provide status of her gas utility. Currently using electric stove for heat. DTE was on scene when they were there. Furnace was running when SBE left, instructed DTE to provide her an electric space heater if the furnace could not stay operational. Instructed caller to contact daughter and senior services for additional assistance.
11:23:31am 3/16/2023 Citizen Assist Leelanau Cty., Would like an officer to make contact to trespass him from the Women's Resource Center store. He has been trespassed.
2:06:40pm 3/16/2023 Animal Control Found N Lake Leelanau Dr., Poodle mix, brown and white, collar no tags, wandered up to house, medium sized dogs, female.
9:23:05pm 3/16/2023 Family Trouble S Center Hwy., Couple was fighting and showed up at callers residence then took off on foot. Both are HBD. Will BOL the area, the female indicated the altercation was between her and her cousin, indicates nothing physical happened, refusing assistance.
10:00:00am 3/17/2023 Animal Control S Lawrence Rd & E Otto Rd., Beagle wandering around.
4:01:17pm 3/18/2023 Citizen Assist Elmwood Twp., Dog has fallen through the ice at Deyoung Natural Area pond. Dog located, sending rescue out. Dog safely on shore.
10:10:08am 3/19/2023 Suspicious Incident Leelanau Cty., Two saturday nights in a row around midnight some youths played “ding dong ditch”. Wants it noted for the record. Instructed to call immediately if it happens again.
9:28:30pm 3/19/2023 Suspicious Incident Glen Arbor, Caller is reporting someone knocking on his door trying to get into his house. Caller also heard them knock on other doors as well.
