The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the November 21 to November 27 call reports.
8:55pm 11/21/2023 MDOP Elmwood Twp., Sister came over and smashed her friend’s car windshield.
5:46am 11/22/2023 Burn Permit Leland Twp., Burning a “not very big” brush pile today.
8:09am 11/22/2023 Unknown Problem Empire Twp., Man without shoes or socks and no coat. Is confused about where he should be. Relative located in the village; returned to his home.
5:55pm 11/22/2023 Traffic Violation S West-Bay Shore Dr., Delivering papers northbound yellow construction light. Advised the driver to deliver papers in a safer manner and directed to travel with the flow of traffic.
10:10pm 11/22/2023 Welfare Check S Townhouse Dr., Caller’s sister is manic and dangerous, she is threatening to hurt caller and caller is worried she may throw things at him. Caller has another sister who is coming over as well. Caller will be in his vehicle. Following the caller to the address; change to wellness check, advised caller to get ahold of court and get a petition that way.
11:24am 11/23/2023 Welfare Check Suttons Bay, Came to caller’s mother’s house and got their 1 month old child. She cannot reach him now and is concerned about the toddler. No one home. Will call the caller, he and GTB12 will keep an eye out and report if anyone returns home. Reporter called back and is enroute to this address as she is convinced that he is there. Would like a tribal police to meet her.
2:53pm 11/23/2023 Death Leelanau Cty., Came to check, haven't heard from him and he lives alone, found him in the bathroom deceased, beyond help. MEI on-call line called, message left. Called back, was provided with 45-22 number and will determine their response. Funeral home ARR.
3:05pm 11/24/2023 Road Hazard Leelanau Twp., Caller was concerned about corncobs in the road. Caller said that someone on the road commission was currently processing corncobs, he was advised that that they would likely clean up when they were finished.
5:34pm 11/24/2023 Animal Control Lost Centerville Twp., Little sweet, rat terrier chihuahua, black, female.
9:46pm 11/24/2023 Suspicious Incident Elmwood Twp., Caller has a Ring doorbell and 2 people came to her door and said, “Oh no, she’s home” and left. Both male with hoodies. Caller is satisfied with the fact that it was kids playing ding dong ditch, will patrol the area for a bit.
9:51pm 11/24/2023 Suspicious Incident S West-Bay Shore Dr., Female in a black Jeep has been sitting at the pumps for about an hour and a half. Caller thinks she has been drinking. Caller then advised she moved the Jeep and is parked in front of the store just staring off into space. Spoke with the female and nothing is really wrong with her other than some mental issues. Employee asked if she could be checked on throughout the night to make sure she is okay if she is still there.
9:52pm 11/24/2023 Suspicious Incident Leelanau Twp., 45-21 came across 2 people walking down the road will make contact. These 2 males have friends playing ding dong ditch. Have both males on the phone with their parents coming to pick them up. Spoke with mom and she is going to pick them up and going to keep an eye on the kids.
10:08am 11/26/2023 MVC Suttons Bay Twp., Caller slid on ice and ran into grassy area, hit electrical boxes.
5:44pm 11/27/2023 MVCPP Bingham Twp., Neighbor called the reporter to say that a red pickup was in her driveway around 3:00pm today and caused damage.
