The Omena Historical Society Museum Opens For The Season July 3, With New Exhibit Honoring Area’s American War Veterans

July 2, 2021

A newly curated exhibit, “Omena’s Legacy of Service: A Common Bond” opens at the Putnam-Cloud Tower House Museum/Omena Historical Society Museum on July 3 at 11am in the Viskochil Community Room.

The exhibit features nearly 250 Omena-area veterans from every branch of the military, from the Civil War to the present. Exhibits include an Honor Roll, grouped by service branch, artifacts, and uniforms from WWI to the present, and a digital slideshow of veteran profiles and photographs.

Northport High School students from Kyle Locke’s social studies class interviewed and researched veterans from their families, and several have contributed digital and print presentations that are included in the exhibit. The digital exhibits will be available at www.omenahistoricalsociety.org in the online archives.

Research for this exhibit has been underway since fall of 2020. Many who have responded to the Omena Historical Society’s appeal for information have said that participating in this project gave their families a positive reason to communicate and converse at a time when they could not visit.

The museum opens for the season on July 3 on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 2pm. Check the historical society's website for more information.
