AI Policy

Integrity drives us. It might sound a little trite or cheesy, but it really is what gets us out of bed in the morning, and hopefully distinguishes our content from what you see and read from many of our peers.

That’s why we are embracing the artificial intelligence revolution -- but maintaining a very strict firewall between it and our journalistic ethics. Here’s a quick summary of how we will and won’t use AI. In short, it can help our writers save a little time, but will never replace or even touch the final, human-written content we deliver to you daily.

  • We use AI almost like an intern: It can help us save some time and assist with tasks, but we don’t trust it to touch nor deliver the final product.

  • AI is a support tool for our journalists, and never a replacement for actual reporting or writing. Our integrity has always been what drives us, and new technology doesn’t change that.

  • Staff may use AI for research, proofreading, suggesting headlines, brainstorming story ideas, summarizing documents or interviews, and organizing notes.

  • Our human editors and reporters verify everything before publication.

  • AI will never be used to fabricate quotes, simulate reporting, or replace original journalism.
