NMC College For Kids Branches Out Into Benzie County
By Craig Manning | June 19, 2024
Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) launched a new robotics class in Benzie County this week as part of its College for Kids program – the first course in the long-running summer education series ever offered outside of Traverse City.
Other College for Kids courses are headed for Benzie County yet this summer, including an art class scheduled for next week and a theatre class on the docket for July 22-25. This week’s robotics course is based at Benzie Central Schools, while the art and theatre classes will take place at Grow Benzie. Registration is still open and slots are still available for the art and theatre sessions.
The College for Kids courses are part of a broader move by NMC to expand its reach beyond Traverse City. Since last fall, the college has been exploring the prospect of annexing Benzie County by levying a millage there – a change that would enable Benzie County residents to get in-district rates if/when they choose to attend NMC. Voters in Benzie County will decide whether to approve the annexation at the ballot box this November.
