Property Watch: 1930s French Road Farmstead Amid A Vast, Scenic 120 Acres

By Emily Tyra | Nov. 18, 2020

This week’s property watch is on a rare 120-acre farm with rolling hills and a mature hardwood forest in one of the most idyllic spots in the county (6875 South French Road, Cedar, $1,320,000, MLS# 1881670).

A four-bed, one-bath fixer-upper farmhouse anchors the pastoral scene that includes classic barns, a garden shed, a stable, and a workshop. This land was home to the county's Mikowski family — and cows and horses — for many years, says Real Estate Agent Blake Bernard of HOMEWATERS, LLC, who adds that the property’s high ridge has “a gentle Southwest-facing slope that is the perfect setup for new orchards, vineyards, or hop fields.”

The farmhouse needs love, but has a new roof, and there’s a new metal roof on three of the barns. “This would be an incredible location for a country home, farm operation, and it’d be perfect for a wedding venue,” Bernard says, adding that any interested buyer should check restrictions with the zoning ordinance in regards to hosting events.

The listing's farmhouse photos reveal a wood burning stove in the kitchen, that Bernard says the longtime lady of the house put to good use well into the 2000s. He adds, “The home still has much of the original character in the wood flooring and trim work, and the barns are full of relics.”
