Property Watch: Creative Director of Shinola’s Spot To Unwind Is For Sale
By Emily Tyra | July 20, 2020
Our property watch this week takes us to a geometric perch on a bluff in Northport (11313 North Evenfall Trail, $1,110,000, MLS #1877279). The home is already an icon of sorts: The New York Times traveled to Northport to feature the owners — one an interior designer, the other the creative director of the watch, bicycle and leather goods retailer Shinola in Detroit — and their modern lakeside oasis shortly after it was completed.
The home was built by Hygge Supply and designed by Tyler Rink not only to be integrated into the natural surroundings high above Lake Michigan, but also to be a healthy setting to unwind and recharge. In addition to the private main suite, two guest bedrooms share a “camp-style” bathroom. The stars of the open plan are a wood burning fireplace and a glass breeze way with sunset views of the Manitou and Fox Islands on one side and a calm, forested landscape on the other.
Listing agent Ann Marie Mitchell of Coldwell Banker Schmidt in Leland adds that thanks to the technology of structural insulated panels (SIPs) with galvanized steel walls, beams, and windows of insulated glass, “this home is as energy efficient as it is dramatic.”
“And then there is the view,” says Mitchell.
The sunset side offers a relaxing summer fire pit; the protected east side has a winter fire pit and footpaths weaving through the surrounding property reveal a seasonal parade of woodland gifts: wild leeks, morels, asparagus, and blackberries.
While there is not currently a path from the sheer bluff to the beach, Peterson Park is a stone’s throw away with a stairway down to the water and one of the best rock hounding beaches on the peninsula.
