Sugarfoot Saloon, Long-Loved Local Hangout In Cedar, Has SOLD

By Emily Tyra | March 24, 2022

Karen and Peter Bardenhagen, co-owners of Sugarfoot Saloon in Cedar, will now enjoy the retirement they’ve anticipated since first announcing the closure of the iconic Mexican American eatery, bar and brew pub back in December 2018.

The Bardenhagens ran ‘Foots, established in 1967, as a well-known Leelanau County gathering spot for over three of its decades. The couple came out of retirement during the pandemic to serve their famous wet burritos and broasted chicken to the community for takeout only.

Lisa Rossi-Brett of The Leelanau Group - Five Star Real Estate in Cedar listed the property at 4997 Good Harbor Trail in Cedar a year ago in February: $690,000 for the 2,956 square-foot restaurant on 1.34 acres plus the adjacent 10 acre parcel.

She confirms to the Leelanau Ticker that a deal to purchase the entire 11.34-acre parcel was finalized yesterday, March 23.

The sale included Sugarfoot’s Class C liquor license for on-site consumption and take-out, catering license, and brew pub license.

Rossi tells the Leelanau Ticker she “believes the plan is a restaurant of some sort” on the property, but she can’t confirm. More to come.
