Teen Runaway Found After Viral Facebook Post From Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office

By Craig Manning | March 6, 2026

A teenage runaway “has been located and is safe,” according to the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office, following a frantic search and a viral social media post this week.

On Wednesday morning just after 8am, the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook feed that it had “received a report of a runaway juvenile that resided within the County.”

“Isaac Owen Walton, white male, 17 years old was last seen at the Career Tech Center in Garfield Township, Grand Traverse County on March 3 around 9:30 am,” the post stated. “Isaac is described as 5'11" and 150 lbs. with blue eyes and blond hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black zip-up type shirt and carrying a gray backpack. No foul play is suspected as Isaac took off on his own accord after having difficulties with his school work and his parents.” The post concluded by urging anyone with information about Walton’s whereabouts to contact the sheriff’s office.

The post quickly went semi-viral in local circles, garnering more than 500 shares on Facebook. In a twist, the post even reached Walton himself, who commented with the following at 9:34am Wednesday morning: “IM DEADASS FINE AND ALL OF THATS IS NOT TRUE.” The sheriff’s office subsequently added an update to the Facebook post, acknowledge that Walton had “posted on this feed,” but noting: “his status is still a runaway. Until he either returns home or has contact with law enforcement his status remains the same.”

Another update to the post around 2pm Wednesday officially brought the saga to a close, announcing that Walton had “been located and is safe,” and thanking the public “for all of their assistance.”
