Try Maple Sugaring At Sleeping Bear

Jan. 27, 2023

A sweet family-friendly event is taking place for the first time at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Maple Sugaring Days at the Dechow and Olsen Farms in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District will debut Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5, from 10am-3pm. Patrons can join park rangers, volunteers, and special presenters at this new event to learn the history of maple sugaring and the process of making maple syrup from start to finish. There will be a guided hike, demonstrations, kid's activities, maple syrup sampling, and goodies to take home.

Maple Sugaring Days is presented by Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in partnership with Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear. There is no cost for the event itself, though participants must have a park entrance pass or an annual pass displayed in their vehicle. Park passes can be purchased at the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire, which is open daily from 9am-4pm. Click here for more information.
