The Leelanau Township Community Foundation (LTCF) has announced its scholarship winners for 2024, as well as its grant recipients for the May 2024 funding cycle. The awardees are detailed below.

Scholarships

Three recent high school graduates from Leelanau County will receive scholarships from LTCF, totaling nearly $30,000. Those include

>Daniel Lint, a graduate from Suttons Bay High School, was awarded the Ruth Solem Science Scholarship, which he’ll put toward his studies at Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) beginning this fall.

>Mallory Lowe, part of Leland Public School’s class of 2024, will receive the Ann Schmittling Memorial Scholarship in anticipation of her impending enrollment at the University of Michigan.

>Dashel Courson of Northport Public School – who is also headed to NMC in the fall – will receive multiple scholarships, including the Florence L. Hanes Scholarship, the Kreig Leabo Memorial Scholarship, the Winfield H. and Dr. Grace Song Line Scholarship, the Annette Viger Taber Memorial Scholarship, and a scholarship from the Northport Promise Fund. In addition to Courson, seven “reapplying graduates” from the area – Lillian Brown, Laura Christianson, Owen Irvine, Gavino Martinelli, Emily Reynolds, Wyatt Sahs, and Sophia Stowe – received scholarships from the Northport Promise Fund.

Grants

The LTCF board of trustees also recently approved its latest round of grants, giving $33,656 to six different Leelanau County nonprofits. Those grants include:

>$5,000 to Leelanau Christian Neighbors, “to establish a Medical Needs Fund to assist Leelanau Township residents.”

>$8,580 to Leelanau UnCaged, “to assist with the rental of a dance stage for the Leelanau UnCaged event.”

>$15,000 to the Leelanau Township Library, “to assist with funding a strategic planning consultant.”

>$1,025 to Northport Performing Arts Center, “for supplies for the Summer Musical Theatre Camp for children, plus another $1,375 “to provide Summer Musical Theatre Camp scholarships for five Northport/Leelanau Township students.”

>$1,850 to Northport Youth Sailing School, “to provide 10 full scholarships for the 2024 summer program to youth who are full-time Leelanau Township residents.”

>$826.33 to Village Voices, “to assist with the purchase of sheet music for the Village Voice's annual performance concert.”
