Local Collaborative Launches Leelanau Housing Survey

By Craig Manning | April 12, 2024

A group of local organizations is seeking public feedback about how to approach the housing shortage in Leelanau County.

Earlier this week, the Leelanau County Housing Collaborative – a group of organizations working together to create a housing action plan for the county – launched a new Leelanau County Housing Survey. The survey seeks public feedback on topics such as tiny homes, accessory dwelling units, housing density, short-term rentals, and housing subsidies, and asks how locals would be willing to be involved in supporting more housing development Leelanau County.

The Leelanau County Housing Collaborative encompasses four different entities: Housing North, the Leelanau Peninsula Economic Foundation, Sleeping Bear Gateways Council, and the Leelanau County Housing Action Committee. Per a press release announcing the survey, the collaborative is working on a housing action plan that will “provide clear solutions to the county commissioners and other key leaders around housing.” The survey, intended “for those living, working, and/or wanting to live in Leelanau County,” is the first phase of that plan.

“Your help in completing the survey will help the collaborative to work with all the stakeholders who play a role in making Leelanau County a place where people can live and work,” said Sharon Oriel, secretary for the Housing North board and a member of the Leelanau Housing Action Committee.

The survey can be accessed on the Housing North website, at www.housingnorth.org/leelanauhousing.
