The Latest Leelanau County Blotter & 911 Call Report

The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the September 8 to September 11 call reports.

2:14pm 9/8/2026 Suspicious Incident Leelanau Cty., Caller thinks he found drugs in the woods, pill bottles and smoking stuff. Looks like an old bag of trash. 

4:26am 9/9/2026 911 Hangup Cedar, TV and breathing in background. No one coming to phone. Phone picked up on callback, went to voicemail. Lights are on at the house, I see someone inside but they aren’t responding to my knocks or flashlight. Making entry into house, door is locked. Can see someone in a chair. Coming to door finally. Everyone is okay. 

2:05pm 9/9/2026 Animal Control Empire Twp., 4 dogs bark every day all day. 

12:29pm 9/10/2026 Citizen Assist Lake Leelnaanu, Older male walking down the road. Concerned he will get hit. Caller did not ask if he needs help. 

7:18pm 9/10/2026 Threats Lake Leelnanau, Store owner verbally threatened caller, would like to speak with an officer. 

11:38pm 9/10/2026 Traffic Violation S West-Bay Shore Dr., Caller says two cars in front of her are brake checking each other and driving recklessly. 

3:35pm 9/11/2026 Suspicious Person E Cherry Bend Rd., Subject left car at recycle station, carrying a .45 in a shoulder holster walking on Cherry Bend asking people for directions. Male wearing all black with Vietnam hat. Another caller thinks he was scammed and is having difficulty breathing, caller was driving by and saw him bent over. States someone has his dog and he has to get a gift card to get the dog back. 

9:26pm  9/11/2026 Info Leelanau Cty., Caller seeing concerning light between N Bar Lake and side of dune plateau.
