The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the July 20 to July 23 call reports.
2:45pm 7/20/2026 WC Misc Leelanau Cty., Caller says youth are on paddle boards and keep falling off. Thinks they might be having trouble getting back onshore.
7:40pm 7/20/2026 Building Check Kasson Twp., 4 ft piece of metal flashing off of the roofline of a building. Has been there for over a month, caller worried that it is going to come down and community needs to do something about it. Does appear that it will come loose eventually.
8:41pm 7/20/2026 Noise Empire Twp., Driving around making a lot of noise.
12:35am 7/21/2026 Road Hazard S Center Hwy & E Fouch Rd., Road washing away. Can wait until morning.
2:37pm 7/21/2026 Suspicious Incident Leelanau Cty., Woman approached her, got close and started asking a bunch of questions. Asked her if she wanted to come see some kittens.
7:38pm 7/21/2026 Suspicious Person Leelanau Twp., Homeless person has dog chained up to caller’s trees.
10:08pm 7/21/2026 Suspicious Incident Empire Twp., Caller reporting it sounds like someone is in trouble, heard funny noise then human grunting, possibly some kind of fight.
11:07am 7/22/2026 Animal Control Lucille St., Dog locked in kennel, lots of feces. No one home, dog is fine.
3:10pm 7/22/2026 MDOP Leelanau Cty., Sunroof was smashed out of her vehicle between 9am and noon.
1:07pm 7/23/2026 Gunshots Leelanau Cty., Someone is shooting off a highly automatic and illegal weapon.
