The Leelanau Ticker is back with a look at the most alarming, offbeat, or otherwise newsworthy calls to the Leelanau Office of Emergency Management/911 dispatch. The following is excerpted from the August 8 to Auguat 16 call reports.

7:48pm 8/8/2026 Suspicious Incident Elmwood Twp., Caller heard 2 gunshots and she went to check it out and there was a man at the end of the road wearing only shorts and a bucket hat carrying a rifle. 

7:58am 8/9/2026 Suspicious Incident S West-Bay Shore Dr., Caller reporting a male came aboard the vessel this morning and attempted to gain entry into the cabin of a female crew member. He was confronted by another crew member and then took off on a bicycle. Dressed in all black with a ski mask. 

5:07pm 8/9/2026 Vans Beach Leelanau Cty., Man 6’1, green shirt, dark gray shorts, 250 lbs with facial hair and a hat walking around parking area looking in the windows of cars.

3:41pm 8/10/2026 Abandoned Vehicle Leelanau Cty., Off road vehicles trespassing through caller’s private orchard, they are being driven around at 1am by unknown persons. 

8:30pm 8/11/2026 Suspicious Incident S West-Bay Shore Dr., Caller is reporting a house has been abandoned for a couple years and today he noticed the window open by the garage and someone on a bike in the driveway. Just thought it should be mentioned because nobody should be living there.

12:59pm 8/12/2026 Citizen Assist Northport, Needs police officer to come, someone broke into home last night. 

10:43pm 8/14/2026 Noise Leelanau Twp., Caller is reporting a large party. Over 100 people there and more people keep showing up. 

6:19pm 8/15/2026 Animal Control Leland, Black Land Rover Discovery parked right in front the business. Unknown how long it’s been there. Golden retriever inside panting and slobbering, window cracked 3 inches. Gained access to the vehicle and is feeding the dog ice. 

9:56pm 8/15/2026 MDOP Lake Leelanau, Caller is reporting someone “took out” his mailbox. It is far off from the road so doesn’t think it was with a car.

6:31pm 8/16/2026 Neighbor Suttons Bay Twp., Neighbor accused caller’s wife of looking into his windows. Got into a shouting match, subject took off.
