Utility Work For M-72/M-22 Roundabout Begins This Week, Open House Scheduled For February 11
By Craig Manning | Feb. 3, 2025
Preparation work will begin today (February 3) for a roundabout set to be built at the M-72/M-22 intersection this year. While work on the actual roundabout isn’t set to start until spring, road closures will run for the next four weeks while utility companies prep for the project by relocating their underground utilities beneath the roadway. Because of the utility work, M-72 will be closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic west of the M-22 intersection.
You can read more about the specific road closures and detours in this article from our sister publication, the Traverse City Ticker.
As closures begin, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is also preparing to share more information about the project and what locals should expect once it begins this spring. MDOT has scheduled an open house for next Tuesday, February 11 from 4-6pm at its Traverse City Transportation Service Center at 2084 US-31 South, Suite B. The event is open to the public and will give local stakeholders a chance to review MDOT’s full project plans.
